Is it Mexican or Texan (I thought it was Mexican - there's also the weird alternative that a Spanish nun evangelised the New World with Catholicism and chilli, in spirit, without leaving her Spanish nunnery)?
Should it have tomatoes in it (I thought: yes)?
What meat should it have (I thought beef, but apparently venison or beef + pork are alternatives)?
Should it have beans in it (I thought kidney beans were essential)?

I find it controversial when it is labelled "Chilli con carne with meat"
Texans will get upset if you put beans in chilli (It is definitely not Mexican) but I think they are okay as long as you cook them from dry in a least a portion of your mixture. If you just add them from a can they are mealy and tasteless.
But then I am not Texan and often have vegetarian chilli.
